Ambulance Driver Medicals

Planning to join a paramedic course at university? You might need a provisional C1 license for
admission. Whether you’re applying for the first time or renewing your license, you can easily
book your ambulance driver medical by filling out our online form at MediDrive.

D4 MEDICAL EXAMINATION

It’s vital to confirm that individuals are both physically and mentally capable ofa
driving safely, especially for commercial and HGV drivers. The D4 medical
examination is key to ensuring drivers meet the necessary medical standards for
various driving licenses, helping maintain safe driving conditions while they work.

PCO MEDICALS

PCO medicals for taxi drivers can be carried out by our General Practitioner. However, it is the Local Authorities (not the DVLA) who decide who is eligible to conduct these medicals. While many Local Authorities permit any GP to perform the taxi driver medical, some require it to be completed by the driver’s own GP. Please ensure you obtain the correct medical form and confirm with your Local Authority that any GP is allowed to complete your medical before booking to avoid any issues.

Our examination will vary between each Local Authority as they decide what questions and tests are involved in the medical.
But all medicals include an eye test, and a blood pressure test. Every medical must follow the same guidelines that a driver
must reach Group 2 Medical Standards. You can find your medical form online and see what’s involved by visiting your Local
Authority’s website and searching for ‘Taxi Licensing’.

Some Local Authorities require the doctor conducting the medical to have access to your medical records. You may need to
request these from your GP surgery.

If the local authority you are applying to requires a full medical history, our doctors will need additional time to review your
documents. In this case, a 30-minute appointment will be necessary, and the cost will be higher.

The D4 medical examination is carried out by a doctor, and the results are sent to the DVLA, who then decide if the driver is
medically fit to drive. In contrast, for taxi medicals, the doctor directly assesses the driver’s fitness to drive based on the
medical standards set by the local authority in charge of licensing. Please be aware that when you book a D4 Medical with
MediDrive, our doctors will not determine your fitness to drive, as this service is intended specifically for DVLA and is different
from a taxi medical.

The validity of your form is determined by the local authority where you’re applying for your licence. This information can be
found from the relevant local authority.

You can obtain this information directly from your local authority or find it on their website. The government website also offers
a list of all councils to select from.
